The European Parliament has adopted a resolution on Kosovo, stating that reforms and progress in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue remain crucial to the country\u2019s European path.<\/p>\n
The resolution was approved with 412 votes in favor, 174 against, and 58 abstentions.<\/p>\n
\u201cContinued reforms and progress in the EU-facilitated dialogue remain key to the European path,\u201d European Parliament Rapporteur for Kosovo Riho Terras wrote on X following the adoption of the resolution.<\/p>\n
The resolution welcomes Kosovo\u2019s continued commitment to the European integration process. In this context, it states that the EU-mediated dialogue on the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia remains an integral part of Kosovo\u2019s European perspective.<\/p>\n
Kosovo and Serbia have not held a high-level dialogue meeting since September 2023, just days before the armed attack in Banjska.<\/p>\n
Acting Deputy Prime Minister Glauk Konjufca stated in early May that he does not expect any significant developments in the dialogue during this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will see how things develop in 2027, but given the current circumstances, I do not expect anything significant, nor any particularly focused European initiative in the remaining months of this year,\u201d he said on May 11.<\/p>\n
According to Konjufca, the biggest problem in the dialogue is the \u201cbreach of trust\u201d caused by Serbia.<\/p>\n
He said that the 2023 attack in Banjska and the 2024 attack on the Ib\u00ebr-Lepenc canal damaged confidence in the normalization process, which began in 2011 and is mediated by the European Union.<\/p>\n
The European Parliament\u2019s resolution reiterates the assessment that 2025 was a lost year for Kosovo, while warning that several months of 2026 also risk being lost due to the ongoing political crisis.<\/p>\n
The resolution states that, because of the political situation, Kosovo could lose access to financial resources from the EU Growth Plan, amid concerns that the country may not be able to meet the necessary criteria for funding.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
