Financial insecurity is increasingly shaping retirement plans in Albania. According to an international survey conducted by the OECD, Albanian men plan to retire later than men in any other European country included in the study, largely due to financial concerns.<\/p>\n
On average, Albanian men said they would prefer to retire at the age of 68.8, while women indicated a preferred retirement age of 64.7. The gap of more than four years between men and women is among the largest in Europe, suggesting that men feel greater financial pressure to remain in the workforce longer in order to secure sufficient income.<\/p>\n
Across Europe, the average preferred retirement age for men is around 65.3 years, meaning Albanian men expect to work more than three years longer than the European average. In contrast, in countries such as France, Belgium, and Austria, most people prefer to retire before the age of 65.<\/p>\n
The survey also found that concerns about financial security in old age are among the main reasons Albanians expect to postpone retirement.
