Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti declared that the auction for a 100 MW solar energy park will help Kosovo open up to more projects on renewable energy, while lowering energy costs. At the Pre-Bidding conference for the 100 MW Solar Auction, organized by the Ministry of Economy in collaboration with USAID, Kurti said Kosovo is on the right track of a much-needed energy transition.
“This will add benefits in terms of cost reduction and pave the way for future renewable energy projects. We are on the right track of a necessary energy transition. Our goal is to encourage private investments and create a favorable environment for investments that are the main drivers for economic development,” said Kurti.
The Minister of Economy Artane Rizvanolli stated that renewable resources are key for energy independence, ensuring further development.
“Renewable resources are key to energy independence, providing the economic development our country needs, while keeping prices affordable for our citizens and businesses. It is important to support a genuine competition process to offer a better price for citizens,” said Rizvanolli.
Meanwhile the United States Ambassador to Kosovo Jeffrey Hovenier called the auction an important step for Kosovo towards full European integration. He praised Kosovo’s institutions for collaborating with the private sector, adding that their involvement in the future of the country for renewable energy is vital for achieving the goal for decarbonization.
