Seasonal viruses have affected all age groups in Elbasan, causing the emergency room and the pediatric department to be full. Hundreds of children receive hospital services every day. Their number keeps growing, reaching 150 children in 24 hours.
“Since mid-December, the flow has increased. We have over 100 appearances in 24 hours, between 110 and 150 children who show up to seek help at the Pediatric Emergency in Elbasan”, said Irena Palloshi, head of Pediatrics in Elbasan.
The pediatrician informs that in just one week, about 1,050 children with various symptoms were presented to this ward.
“What we notice is the increase in hospitalizations because this virus that we are going through also gives its own complications. The main complications are usually in the respiratory tract.
Children come with pneumonia and bronchiolitis. These are the most prominent cases, the children who come for help are usually children with rebellious temperatures, resistant to antipyretics, and the parents are rightly worried”, Palloshi said.
According to doctors, parents should first consult the family doctor before making an appointment at the city’s Pediatrics.
Doctors recommend that avoiding places with many people and increasing personal hygiene could avoid the spread of viruses in circulation.
