112 possible trafficking victims were identified throughout the year 2022 in Albania.

In reception centers where they are sheltered for reintegration into society, it appears that there is a lack of capacity to accommodate an expected increased influx in 2023, as cases are expected to be returned from the United Kingdom.

“Most of the cases are identified within the country and are possible victims of trafficking or victims of trafficking. In the event that we will have a large influx of these potential victims who, as is said, will return from the United Kingdom, we will need financial capacities and human resources. About 150 cases can be accommodated in shelters and if they ask for it; the rest will be accommodated in rented apartments,” Brunilda Puka from Vatra Center told Euronews Albania.

Experts say that trafficking victims are exploited not only outside Albania but also within the country.

They report that an increasing number is being identified in mobile units established in Dibër, Shkodër, Kukës, Berat, Lezhë, Shëngjin, Vlorë, and Durrës.
