About 12 thousand Albanians have sought asylum in the countries of the European Union during the period January-September.

According to data published by Eurostat, the request for asylum has fallen by 32% compared to the year 2022, the period which marked the highest level of asylum seekers.

During this year, the month of September had more requests, 1240 people requested asylum.

About 60% of applicants seek asylum for the first time, while the rest are repeat applicants.

France remains the main destination of Albanians for asylum, followed by Germany and then Italy.
