Albania and Kosovo are amongst the 13 countries that have accepted to shelter Afghan refugees that are being evacuated from their home countries and feeling the Taliban. The news was confirmed by the US State Secretary, Antony Blinken.
Blinken reported that the countries that have accepted to take in Afghans are: Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Ukraine, Poland, Canada, Columbia, Costa Rica, Chile, Mexico, Qatar, Rwanda and Uganda. The number of those that have left Afghanistan until now has reached 20 thousand.
Seeing that the Afghans that could be benefiting from the refugee status still haven’t passed the security check-up process of the US government, they will be temporarily taking shelter in one of these countries.
Blinnken has declared that the fact that a number of other countries are expressing their willingness to host refugees is encouraging while adding that the evacuation from Afghanistan of Americans and their Afghan partners remains the priority number one of the US administration.
The chief of American diplomacy also stated that 12 other countries are in the process of considering becoming transit countries for Afghan emigrants. Those countries are: Denmark, Germany, Italy, Great Britain, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Bahrain, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.
The American military base in Qatar, Al Udeid, has added to its capacity in order to prepare for the arrival of an est. 8 000 Afghans.
