18 young cultural heritage professionals from the Western Balkans are participating in the regional restoration camp that is taking place in Gjirokastra. Young people from Albania, Kosovo, Greece are contributing to the study of monuments and the design of paths in religious buildings and post-Byzantine monasteries in the Drino valley.

“This will be very beneficial for the development of tourism because this initiative, in addition to designing these paths, also aims to create a sustainable tourism model,” said Arnold Kapinova, coordinator.

The participants find it useful to be involved in this regional camp and the opportunity you are given to contribute to the development of tourism in the region of Gjirokastra.

“Gjirokastra is a site, it is a territory that carries not only monuments of culture, cultural heritage but also carries a wide mosaic of attractions and I have the deep conviction that not only the high expectation towards these activities but also the increasing intensity of participation and above all in a very wide spectrum of professions are a guarantee that tomorrow will provide a development that Gjirokastra has lacked for years.”

“I am from Bosnia and I think that this camp is very attractive, interesting and very educational because many professionals from different countries participate and we can discuss certain topics together.”

“I come from Greece and I am in this camp because I value the values of monuments and cultural heritage very important, it is a very good activity where we are trained on the ways and methods of reviving monuments and how to promote their traditional values”

Thanks to the special architectural and construction values, Gjirokastra has already turned into an international center for the development of events for cultural heritage and the promotion of tourism. The participants in these organizations, mostly young people, are playing an important role in promoting the monuments and tourist resources of the Gjirokastra area.
