The spread of tuberculosis, an infectious disease that mainly affects the lungs, remains at low levels in Albania and does not follow European trends. This is the conclusion of specialists from the Institute of Public Health (IPHP), who state that over the past 10 years, the number of infected cases has followed a downward curve until the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, after which the situation has remained stable.
The World Health Organization (WHO) says that 1 in 5 people in Europe are not diagnosed. Albanian health experts say that stigma remains a problem in the country as well.
Tuberculosis is considered a curable disease if it is detected in the early stages and responds to antibiotic treatment.
