As 19 more identified victims of the 1995 Srebrenica massacre were reburied Sunday, politicians from Kosovo and Albania remembered the horrific genocide and expressed their sorrow on its 26 th anniversary.

Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti condemned the massacre and strongly criticized world leaders who attempt to downplay or deny what happened.

“It is inconceivable how, even in the 21st century, there are politicians in our region who say that those seeking the punishment of those guilty of genocide are against dialogue and against good neighborliness,” Kurti said.

“Today we remember the Srebrenica Genocide. We mourn with the families of the victims as we recall that there can be no lasting peace without justice and we must condemn strongly those who deny genocide and war crimes, or who glorify war criminals,” he further wrote on Twitter.

President Vjosa Osmani emphasized the ongoing support of Kosovo and unequivocally condemned the barbaric acts of the massacre. Osmani reiterated that Kosovo shares the same pain as the mothers of Srebrenica.

“Today, the world remembers the 26th anniversary of the Srebrenica Massacre, the unprecedented barbarity of the genocidal forces of the Milosevic’s Serbian regime. Today we share the pain of the mothers of Srebrenica together! The mortal remains of the 19 killed then will have their permanent address today. A 16-year-old will be among those to be buried today, 26 years after the murder! Such barbaric acts must be judged by justice, but also by history,” Osmani wrote.

Albania’s leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, was also among figures that remembered the horrible massacre. Through a message written on Twitter, Basha also announced that his party will present a resolution in Parliament condemning the Serbian genocide in Kosovo.

“The Srebrenica massacre is a genocidal act, which must be recognized and condemned by the civilized world. Albania must have the courage and independence to condemn it and the Serbian genocide in Kosovo,” Basha wrote.
