284 citizens tested positive over the past 24 hours, although no deaths were recorded.

The majority of the new cases were detected in Tirana (79), followed by Shkodra (24) and Lezha (22).

The number of active cases has been increasing at a rapid pace, with an estimated 1,271 active infections across the country.

So far, the virus has claimed the lives of 2,460 citizens, while 130,503 have recovered.

According to a simple calculation, Albania will need 4.4 million jabs in order to immunize its population from COVID-19, while so far it has only received 1.8 million.

As of the tenth of August, at least 25.03% of the population has received one vaccine dose and 19.46% are fully vaccinated.

The health ministry has announced that all citizens will be eligible to get the COVID-19 jab in August in an effort to avoid a potential wave fueled by the highly contagious Delta strain.
