In the first three months of the year, 60,000 vehicles underwent technical inspection in Albania. Of these, over 17,000 failed, raising concerns about the condition of vehicles circulating in the country.
The General Directorate of Road Transport Services (DPSHTRR) has published data for the period January–March 2025 regarding vehicle technical inspections. During this period, 60,200 vehicles were tested, 88% of which were private 4+1 vehicles and vans.
According to the figures published by DPSHTRR, 29% of the vehicles failed the test, highlighting serious concerns over their technical condition. The main reasons for failure include visual and functional deficiencies, problems with the exhaust system, and defects in steering and braking systems.
Another important factor is the age of vehicles in circulation. During this quarter, 1,900 vehicles with an average age of 22 years were permanently deregistered.
Statistics show that the majority of inspections — 36% — were conducted in the Tirana region’s testing centers, reflecting the highest volume and concentration of vehicles in the capital.
