Problems in the exhaust system remain the main reason why cars fail their technical inspection on the first attempt.
Official data show that in the first seven months of this year, 167,000 vehicles were tested, of which 24% — or 40,000 cars — did not pass the inspection.
According to the Directorate of Road Transport, there are four main reasons leading to inspection failures. At the top of the list is the exhaust system, accounting for 38% of cases, followed by visual and functional deficiencies, braking system issues, and steering system problems.
Despite the recent renewal of the vehicle fleet used by Albanians, the old age of many cars and the quality of diesel fuel remain the key factors why vehicles fail the technical test.
It is worth noting that this year, 4,500 vehicles with an average age of 22 years have been permanently deregistered. This figure reflects the number of cars that have been removed from circulation — vehicles that posed both accident risks and environmental pollution.
