The Social Insurance Institute has announced that pensioners who believe their monthly pension has been miscalculated may now request a review of their benefits.
Applications can be submitted online through the E-Albania platform, under the section “Request for Pension Reconsideration”. Individuals are entitled to receive an official response within 30 days.
In addition to pension recalculations, applicants may also request:
-
Information about their insurance contribution periods and how their pension was calculated.
-
Extensions for disability pensions, family pensions, and electricity compensation benefits.
Previously, pension errors were verified through random checks by social insurance experts across regional agencies. However, the new system allows pensioners themselves to initiate reviews directly.
According to official data, errors affect about 5% of cases, amounting to around 45,000 pensions nationwide. The groups most impacted include:
-
Workers in the private sector,
-
Seasonal employees,
-
Emigrants,
-
Individuals employed during the 1990s–2000s transition period.
The government move is seen as an important step to address long-standing concerns over pension fairness and accuracy.
