On September 10th the first plenary session for the new parliament will convene but 5 MPs, who were elected on April 25th have given up on their parliamentary seat. Tom Doshi, Gramoz Ruci, Mark Marku, Najada Como and Lefter Koka have decided to not be a part of the new legislature.

Tom Doshi

2 days after the April 25th elections, Tom Doshi refused to keep his mandate.

His renouncement came as a response to the US ambassador in Albania, Yuri Kim’s statement that he shouldn’t be part of the next parliament due to him being recently declared non-grata by the US Department of State.

Doshi backed up his resignation by arguing that his decision was meant to protect his name “after numerous attempts that were aiming to dishonor it”.

Tom Doshi will be replaced by two new MPs representing PSD in parliament, namely Jetmira Raboshta from the list of Shkodra and Gertjan Deda from Tirana.

Gramoz Ruçi

During his speech at the Extraordinary Congress of the Socialist Party that was held on June 12th, Gramoz Ruci stated his resignation from all functions at the Socialist Party, including his mandate that had been recently awarded to him by socialist voters in Fier.

Meanwhile, Ruci has told Euronews Albania that he is still a Socialist, a family man and the ultimate grandfather.

Ruci’s resignation is bringing Mirela Pitushi to the new parliament.

Mark Marku

A week ago, Mark Marku gave up his seat in the new parliament, where he would represent the county of Lezha.

He told Euronews Albania that the reasoning behind his resignation was a “clash of ideas with the present leadership of the Democratic Party”.

Lately, Marku has been a critical voice within the Democratic Party.

During DP’s National Assembly, he claimed that the Democratic Party was at a critical point.

Based on the Electoral Code, Marku’s mandate goes to Elda Hoti.

Najada Çomo

On September 1st, the Chair of the Infective Hospital, Najada Como relinquished her mandate, which was won in Tirana.

The news was announced by PM Edi Rama, who pointed out that the reason for Como’s resignation was her devotion to a rising number of COVID-19 cases.

Como’s mandate will now go to the former Defense Minister, Mimi Kodheli.

Lefter Koka

Lefter Koka gave up his seat in parliament, after running for the Socialist Party on April 25th’s elections in the county of Durres.

Through a post on social media, Koka thanked everyone who voted for him but failed to make the reasons for his decision public.

Lefter Koka’s mandate will now go to Ana Dhamo.
