The Port of Durrës has witnessed a substantial surge in the shipment of goods destined for Kosovo, with a 50% increase during the first eight months of this year.

Since October 1, 2022, all goods bound for Kosovo have undergone customs clearance at the Durrës Customs, a change that has streamlined the process for 1,040 Kosovo businesses. This shift not only saves time but also reduces customs expenses.

Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani made an official visit to Albania, during which she paid a visit to the Port of Durrës, where she met with the Director General of Customs, Gent Gazheli, and the Director General of the Durrës Port Authority, Pirro Vengu.

Discussions during the meeting revolved around the progression of trade between the two countries, customs cooperation, and the ongoing developments in the import and export of Kosovo’s goods through the Durrës/Porto Romano port complex.

President Osmani expressed her gratitude for the cooperation and support from Albanian authorities, facilitating seamless interaction between the two customs offices, streamlining procedures, and enhancing trade collaboration accessible to all Albanians.

According to a report from the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) on foreign trade, Albanian exports to Kosovo from January to July amounted to 23.7 billion Albanian lek, reflecting growth from the 22 billion Albanian lek recorded during the same period in 2022.

In contrast, imports for the seven-month period totaled 6.4 billion Albanian lek, down from over 9 billion Albanian lek reported in the 2022 seven-month period.

Albania’s primary exports to Kosovo encompass construction materials, metals, minerals, combustible materials, food products, as well as chemical and plastic items.

The export structure also includes notable contributions from domestic wood and furniture products, including chairs, sofas, and various other furniture items.
