Customs officials at the Bozhaj – Hani i Hotit border crossing between Montenegro and Albania successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle approximately 500 kilograms of marijuana on Sunday, as reported by Montenegrin police.
The police statement disclosed that the internal customs system’s indicators and alarms detected a significant quantity of drug contraband originating from Albania and headed for the European Union. The seizure operation was conducted with full authorization from customs authorities, utilizing thorough customs data analysis and techniques.
The Montenegro Police Directorate confirmed that the marijuana was concealed within a truck bearing Albanian license plates. The illicit cargo was hidden within the vehicle’s freight area and had been sealed with customs stamps. Law enforcement officials have dispatched the seized packages for further in-depth analysis.
Outgoing Prime Minister of Montenegro Dritan Abazović hailed the interception of the marijuana shipment as a noteworthy success.
He commended the coordinated efforts undertaken consistently by the Montenegro Customs Directorate and the Police Directorate, emphasizing the tangible outcomes that everyone can take pride in. Abazović further underscored Montenegro’s leading role among European nations in the battle against drug trafficking.
