Albanians are increasingly prioritizing comfort by opting for automatic cars over manual ones. According to data from the General Directorate of Road Transport Services, 66% of vehicles registered in 2024 are automatic, while 33% are manual transmission.

However, this preference for automatic cars translates into higher costs. Mechanics note that manual cars tend to have fewer issues and are also more fuel-efficient.

“The demand is mostly for automatic cars. Manuals are mainly used by companies because they have fewer problems and lower maintenance costs. Automatic cars, on the other hand, are more delicate and prone to issues. People prefer convenience, and automatics are more practical. However, manuals consume less fuel compared to automatics,” explains mechanic Kreshnik Ndreu.

Enthusiasts of manual cars will soon have fewer options. Major manufacturers are increasingly focusing on producing automatic vehicles, including models where all functions are controlled via buttons on the steering wheel. A market survey reveals that manual cars currently available are mostly models produced between 2008 and 2015.
