The former president of the country, Ilir Meta, one of the figures who held the highest political positions, is in the same prison as some of the most well-known names of the world of crime.

Meta is staying in detention cells 313 in Tirana, inside the premises where Nuredin Dumani, Leonard Duka, Emiljano Shullazi, Laert Haxhiu are kept, some of whom he has denounced in his public appearances. In this prison, persons who are being investigated or judged by Special Prosecutor’s Office for serious criminal offenses committed within the criminal group, criminal organization or terrorist organization serve their sentence.

After setting the security measure, the Directorate of Prisons decided to move Meta from the Security Block to 313 to have contact with the lawyer while the case is still under review. Due to his position, Ilir Meta cannot stay in a cell with people convicted of other criminal offenses or who have criminal records.

Also, during the time of the airing, the former president goes out alone, in order not to have contact with other prisoners, in order not to create incidents. Currently, Meta is in a surveillance room and according to the law, he can stay from 1 to 10 days. After medical checks, which are standard procedure for any person in custody, the former president will be placed in a cell.

It is learned that his communication with the prison staff was smooth and there were no problems. During these days, he was visited by his children and his lawyer, Genc Gjokuajt. Visits are approved after obtaining permission from the prosecutors of the case. The head of the Freedom Party will remain at 313 until the SPAK investigations are completed.

In case the former president Ilir Meta feels unsafe and threatened, I will have to make a request to the Directorate of Prisons to move him to another cell.
