Parliament has voted with 77 votes against the Democratic Party’s request to remove the election of the Ombudsman from the agenda. The opposition voted with 30 votes in favor, while there was 1 abstention.

“The vote is open and by card. Those in favor, please count the votes in favor: 30 votes. Those against? 77 votes against. Abstentions, 1 abstention. With 77 votes against, 30 in favor, and 1 abstention, the request is not approved,” said Peleshi.

Opposition MPs stated that they have withdrawn their signatures for the candidates and demanded the annulment of the process. Berisha said that they are implementing the decision of the Committee on Legal Affairs and that is why they withdrew their signatures for the candidates.

According to him, the decision of the Legal Affairs Committee is being violated in order to “grab” the Ombudsman’s post. Six candidates will be put to vote in Parliament today: Endri Shabani, Adriana Kalaja, Besim Ndregjoni, Aranita Braho, Skënder Haluci, and Tartar Bazaj.
