Interior Minister Bledi Çuci told media during a press conference called one day after a serious gun exchange in Velipoja that claimed the lives of 4 citizens, that he understands the concern of the public and their charges against the police, but added that it is impossible to have the presence of law enforcement authorities “in every single corner of the territory” or at “any time an accident or brawl arises”.

Admitting that there is a need to improve the State Police, Minister Çuçi put partial blame on prosecutors and judges, even calling out specific names, who allegedly freed from prison felons posing a risk to the public.

The Interior Minister warned of deep-rooted changes of the State Police in different districts starting off from next week.

“We’re preparing for a new phase of the state police reform. Within the week we will have deep changes of police functionaries at a district level”, said Minister Çuçi.
