Around 80 new cases of cervical cancer are reported every year at the Oncology Hospital at QSUT. Oncologists say this is the most common cancer among women and is influenced by multiple factors.

Obstetrician-gynecologist Euglend Hoxha says that cervical cancer is a disease that can be eliminated through vaccination, early detection, and proper treatment.

On World Cancer Day, doctors are calling for prevention and early diagnosis. Since 2019, Albania has begun administering the HPV vaccine, which targets one of the main causes of cervical cancer.

Initially, the vaccine was given to 13-year-old girls, but starting in January 2026 it will become part of the mandatory vaccination schedule for boys of the same age as well.
