Analyst Andi Bushati said during Euronews Albania’s political commentary show “Shock” that the date of the elections taking place within the Democratic Party was set to happen sooner, because the real process within DP needed to be mined and Basha needed to secure his continuity as party chair, problem-free. He compared Basha’s behavior at the party’s headship with Edi Rama’s model.
Andi Bushati also pointed out that according to him, Lulzim Basha has turned into a senior ruler in DP, by creating the model of the ruler that isn’t held accountable but simply keeps the chair of the leader.
“What Basha is doing with DP is what Rama is doing with Albania, a race without respecting the rules of the game; a race without respect for your rivals and without allowing a process, where all parties get heard. After a shocking defeat like the one suffered by DP, the first thing that needs to be done, after what I agree that it was a massive theft, there needs to be a debate regarding how able DP was to not let this theft happen. The regime can’t be overthrown with the same model and this is a bigger failure for DP than the one on April 25th,” declared the analyst.
According to analyst Baton Haxhiu, the democratic process is missing from within the Democratic Party and in this situation, Lulzim Basha can easily remain the party leader. Under normal circumstances, he said, Basha would have had to step down.
“There’s no democratic system within DP, and instead there’s the model, where someone staying a leader for a long time. He resigned but didn’t create a democratic system, in fact he nominated the successor. Whoever would’ve lost, would’ve had to go,” said Haxhiu.
