The head of the National Council of the Democratic Party Bujar Nishani said during an interview on Euronews Albania that there is an ongoing wider crisis than just the race to find a new party leader while referring to the latter as “not a race at all”.
Nishani underlined that the first thing the party needs to do is to make a field assessment “where the battle took place”, referring to the loss of the Democratic Party at the polls.
“The DP can’t just resolve the situation in which it finds itself and it was also reflected by the outcome of the elections through a simple analysis. The DP needs to go through deep transformation”, he stressed.
“The election of the new leader must come after several considerations”.
Nishani described the race as a “transient charade”.
“It is a transient charade which doesn’t help the DP to come out of the crisis, but does the opposite”, he said.
The former president emphasized that the current leader Lulzim Basha has determined who the winner is already.
“The criteria are formal. The essential fact is that the leader of the party determines the criteria, creates the commission which will rule over according to the criteria as well as evaluate the candidates, he has determined the date and deadline of the campaign. So he determines who the winner is”.
