The Ministry of Defense in Kosovo and Albania have signed an agreement, which involves the strengthening of their collaboration in this field.
The Minister of Defense, Niko Peleshi reconfirmed Albania’s willingness to support Kosovo during all of its integrating processes.
“Albania has been and will continue to be openhandedly supportive of all of Kosovo’s integrating processes within the Euro-Atlantic structures. We have walked past the path that Kosovo is aspiring to, the road of NATO membership…The integration of the entire Western Balkans in the Euro-Atlantic structures is crucially important for Albania, it is important for Kosovo, it is important for Europe too. Therefore, Albania remains interested alongside the other countries of the region, to walk ahead toward the European Union, toward their integration to NATO,” he said.
On the other hand, the Minister of Defense in Kosovo, Armend Mehaj said that they have authorized the legal base for the coordination of military activities in both countries.
“I have the pleasure to present to you the accomplishment of the agreement between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Albania and the Ministry of Defense in the Republic of Kosovo, a collaboration in the field of defense. One of the agreements we have discussed and accomplished together is the organization of joint activities of a professional level, which is the academy of both ministries; it is the coordination of consultation from the group of experts from the Ministry of Defense in Albania, the establishment of the adequate stance on political, military and legal matters focused on the integration of the Republic of Kosovo in NATO and other regional initiatives. Another crucially important focus point is the establishment of joint military exercises as well as involvement and participation in future international operations,” said Mehaj.
During the conference between both ministries, it was pointed out that the newly signed agreement was on the basis of several other existing agreements, but through this most recent one, the aim is to elevate the collaboration between Albania-Kosovo to a higher level.
