Fatbardh Kadilli has officially announced that he will be running for the leadership post of the Democratic Party. As he was exiting the party’s headquarters, he told the media that the race will most likely be “asymmetric” in front of the current leader Lulzim Basha.
However, Kadilli said he has a “moral advantage” and to do the “impossible to bring the DP up to its feet”.
“The sitting leader will not even come out of his office and he had all the means to overcome his opponent Edi Rama, and these means will now be against me as a candidate”, Kadilli said.
Furthermore, Kadilli emphasized he feels “superior” when confronting Basha, as he is entering the race “to serve to the party, and not to be served by it”.
“My values are personal and political purity, political integration, experience and ability to keep my word, as well as loyal to the institutions and the people of the DP. I have never betrayed anyone at the DP, nor the DP, and I will not deceive Democrats in the efforts to revamp the Democratic Party”, Kadilli stated.
The Democratic Party is holding internal elections on June 13 after the DP did not meet its expectations at the parliamentary polls held on April 25.
The leader of the Democrats Lulzim Basha has called the polls “an electoral massacre”.
Fatbardh Kadilli, a renowned name between the lines of the Democratic Party, has called on Basha to step down.
Earlier on, Kadilli told Euronews Albania that he aims to take over the leadership of the party and bring back many of its distinctive figures that left in the past 8 years.
