Agron Shehaj is officially running for the leadership post of the Democratic Party.
In a status posted on Facebook, Shehaj wrote that to him this “is not a race for the post”, but a “joint effort by all Democrats” that want to see the party as “a party of its members: truly democratic, modern and open”.
“Today, Albania needs a strong opposition, principled and inspiring. Today, Albania needs the Democratic Party!”, Shehaj wrote.
Shehaj vows to pull the party out of its current state and “make it stronger than before”.
“In face of autocracy, corruption and the incompetence of the government, we will build an alternative of freedom, honesty, and proficiency”.
Agron Shehaj was the second most voted candidate of the Democratic Party at the parliamentary polls held on April 25.
On Friday, another Democrat, Fatbardh Kadilli, also announced to be running for the party’s top. Kadilli told the media that the race will most likely be “asymmetric” in front of the current leader Lulzim Basha, who did not step down prior to announcing internal elections.
