In an interview for Euronews Albania, the Mayor of Durres Emiriano Sako listed some of the measures taken as the coastal city looks ahead to the tourist season, including a wide cleanup along the Adriatic coastline.
A joint initiative with the city’s universities and high schools and led by the municipality is seeking to raise awareness among citizens to protect the environment and areas where they will be holidaying.
“Together with this initiative we will be also cleaning up cultural monuments located near the beaches, such as in Porto Romano and Ishem”, Sako told Euronews Albania.
Asked whether private businesses have joined the initiative, Sako said the municipality has not designated the public beach areas to businesses yet and invited those who are interested to apply at the government portal e-Albania in order to sign a contract.
