The EU Special Representative for the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue Miroslav Lajcak will be visiting Kosovo today.

During his two-day visit, the EU official is set to meet with Kosovar president Vjosa Osmani, Prime Minister Albin Kurti, as well as Foreign Affairs Minister Donika Gërvalla and deputy minister for European Integration Besnik Bislimi.

Lajcak will be joined by the Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs and US Envoy at the Serbia-Kosovo dialogue Matthew Palmer.

The two officials met a few days ago in Brussels where they discussed the dialogue and other matters involving the countries in the Western Balkans.

Their visit is widely seen as an effort to get the two countries back on the roundtable of discussions, a process that has been suspended since 2020.

The talks are expected to begin by mid-June. Two of Kosovo’s opposition parties, the Democratic League of Kosovo and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, have called on the US to take up an important role in the process.

EU’s Lajcak and the US envoy Palmer will hold a joint press conference on June 1, at 10:45.
