From the President’s impeachment to DP’s Leadership vote – the ‘hot week’ of Albanian politics

Things are heating up quite a bit – this week in the Albanian political scene, and irrelevant of the weather, the forecast for politics in our country for the next couple of days is well-known.

On Wednesday, June 9th, Parliament will be voting on President Ilir Meta’s impeachment. This is the first time that the Albanian Parliament votes for or against the dismissal of a President of the Republic and the majority needed by the Socialists to do this, is 94 votes in their favor.

Meanwhile, in the weekend specifically on Saturday, June 12th, the Congress of the Socialist Party will convene, during which the reorganization of the party’s structures will be the central topic, including discussions about the main priorities of the Rama administration during their third term in power.

And lastly, only one day after, on Sunday, June 13th, the Democratic Party will be holding its Leadership elections, where its members will choose between the current leader Lulzim Basha, Agron Shehaj, Edit Harxhi and Fatbardh Kadilli to be the next Chairperson that will represent the biggest opposition party in the country during their next term.
