The US embassy in Tirana reacted after the decision of the American president Joe Biden to pass an executive order, through which he aims to block the wealth and property of all those individuals that according to US authorities, have impinged on the stability of the Western Balkans and are thus also denied entry into the U.S.
Through a post on their official Facebook page, the embassy states that an explicit reference to Albania makes it clear that the new executive order is consistent with the work that the United States and EU have done for the integration of the region into European and Euro-Atlantic structures.
“President Joe Biden issued a new Executive Order (E.O.) yesterday, authorizing the use of sanctions against persons engaged in an array of destabilizing activity in the Western Balkans, including those engaged in efforts that threaten regional peace, security, and stability; undermine democratic processes; and engage in corruption related to the region, among other activities. An explicit reference to Albania makes clear that the E.O. is aligned with the work the United States and the EU have been doing to integrate the region into European and Euro-Atlantic structures. Yesterday’s E.O. is a vital tool toward achieving this shared goal,” stated the reaction of the US embassy in Tirana.
