Majority of Albanians against a grand SP-DP ruling coalition

A majority of Albanians do not believe that the Socialist Party and the Democratic Party should form a coalition meanwhile, the invitation extended by PM Edi Rama to Lulzim Basha is predominantly seen as an effort to gain political credit.

These were the results of the survey conducted by the prestigious company MRB for Euronews Albania.

Voters from both parties were asked whether they think that the SP and DP should form a coalition government, to which they responded as follow:

  • Absolutely yes – 9.7%
  • Yes – 15.7%
  • No – 18.1%
  • Absolutely no – 54.8%
  • I don’t know /I won’t answer – 1.7%

In a detailed analysis, 35.1% of voters from the Socialist Party were in favor of a coalition, while only 20.2% thought so from the Democrats.

Citizens saw PM Rama’s invitation to DP’s Basha as an “effort to gain political credit”.

69.9% of those asked said Basha should not accept the invitation to collaborate with Rama.

While for those asked whether Rama’s invitation was sincere, 43.5% declared that the move was only for political gains.

54.7% of Socialist voters think that the premier’s invitation is sincere, and only 5.8% of Democrats thought alike.

Methodology

The survey was done for Euronews Albania by the prestigious company MRB who conducted 1.000 face-to-face interviews (49.5% male, 50.5% female) in urban and rural areas with eligible voters (+18) from May 25 until June 2.
