The former chief negotiator of Kosovo during the first phase at the dialogue with Serbia, Skënder Hyseni, told Euronews Albania that he is hopeful that the process might conclude within this year.

But according to him, this will depend on whether Prime Minister Albin Kurti is aware that the agreements signed with the United States need to be implemented. Also, Hyseni said that Kosovo’s premier must renounce his “arrogant behavior” shown in both domestic and foreign policy.

“I really hope and wish that the government of Kosovo understands the importance and necessity of continuing the dialogue where we left it, under that framework of the very basic principles which are clear and aim to harmonize the general agreement that of course must be mutual recognition”, declared Hyseni.

“Kosovo must show that it is serious in international relations and it cannot disregard treaties ratified in parliament. Foreign policy doesn’t work like that, especially for a country that still has to conclude its own statute”, he added.

“It is vital for Kosovo to end the conflict with Serbia as soon as possible and focus on other major issues of state consolidation ”, said Hyseni.

Kosovo’s former chief negotiator did not believe in any “extraordinary outcome” after the June 15 meeting in Brussels, as in substance it is “a continuation of what convened last July”.

Furthermore, he suggests that the country should not play the card of being “totally independent in its foreign policy”, and emphasized that the Ahtisaari Package is not an international agreement but a report for the solution of Kosovo’s problem.
