The Parliament’s verdict to dismiss Ilir Meta from the post of the President of the Republic was deemed by the President as a show and a travesty made “to attract the attention away from electoral crimes”.
“Since there were requests from you, for some evaluations and interviews related to the latest charade of our monist Parliament; You know very well that we made all the efforts to stay away from this charade because it is a clear show to take the attention away from the investigation of electoral crimes and to put the blame on people that don’t exist,” stated Ilir Meta.
The president also stated that he wasn’t able to meet the authors that dismissed him because he had important meetings planned since a long time ago.
“Even though this parliament has been dismissed since April 25th, I am emphasizing my willingness to meet with the initiators of this charade within the legal time limit, which was May 10th and I contacted them many days ago but they refused because they were ordered to, so the president had to miss the meetings planned 10 days in advance, with the Foreign Minister of Austria or my meeting with the president of Slovenia, in order to submit to the Parliament’s caprices,” stated Ilir Meta.
Regarding the accusation for his involvement in the electoral campaign, Ilir Meta stated that as president he has done everything, he can to prevent what he called a degradation of the electoral standard.
“It would’ve been good for us to conduct model elections, but we all know very well that the president has made all the efforts to prevent the degradation of the electoral standard and it is a pity that the number of denouncements of electoral crimes before and during the electoral process was much higher than that of 2017,” stated Meta.
“This happened because of the lack of investigations on the casefiles of Dibra and Shijak, as well as the challenge that was made public [by Rama] to repeat the “earthquake” of vote-theft happening in the last elections in Diber and Vlore and all of Albania,” he added.
President Meta assured that the fact that he was impeached by Parliament didn’t bother him.
He called the parliament the “Parliament that was discharged since April 25th” and said that he is open to collaborating with the new parliament that is expected to be appointed in September, with the ruling party as well as the new opposition.
