The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic gave a statement for the press after his meeting with the Prime minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, during which he declared that an agreement was reached regarding the fact that the dialogue will continue until the end of July.
“We are certain about the dialogue but this meeting wasn’t in this spirit because of the irresponsibility on the Albanian side. We have agreed to have the dialogue of a high level continue until the end of July,” he said.
Vucic also said that “he hasn’t participated in such a meeting ever before” referring to Kurti’s outburst during the conversation, asking for the recognition of Kosovo’s independence. According to him, Kosovo’s PM made an effort to put an end to the dialogue, defining Kurti as a non-serious person and not representative of Kosovo.
“I replied harshly but I didn’t overstep the boundary. He (Kurti) came as if we hadn’t agreed on anything. He said “I have to come to ask you when you will recognize Kosovo”. I replied “never” and he was enraged”, stated the Serbian president.
Vucic also said that Kurti had threatened him during the meeting with a genocide lawsuit, but that he had replied by saying that instead of talking about it, he should act on it.
The Serbian president also expressed his discontent regarding the essence of the discussion, while deeming Albin Kurti’s behavior as “not too important”.
“If you come and say, when will you recognize Kosovo’s independence, it is clear that he hadn’t come to discuss but to provoke a reaction from Belgrade or my personnel, so that we would leave that roundtable and later he could use it as an alibi saying that Serbia is abandoning the dialogue,” declared Vucic.
