The Constitutional Court will resume today its session on the demolition of the National Theater after having adjourned following a 12-hour hearing on Wednesday.

The court has yet to express its opinion on the president’s request to nullify an ownership transfer from the Ministry of Culture to the Municipality of Tirana, as well as revoke a contract for the construction of a new theater.

During the hearing, the president’s legal affairs advisor Bledar Dervishaj presented his case by enlisting several violations that were allegedly committed by the Albanian government.

The office of the president demands that all construction work at the old site of the theater is suspended.

The National Theater was demolished on this day last year, a move that sparked violent confrontations between citizens and the police, as well as international media coverage.
