Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has spoken for the first time on the State Department’s decision to designate as “persona non-grata” former premier Sali Berisha. The comment came during an interview with the former envoy of the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue Richard Grenell.
“I would say that on one side it is sad to see this reality, but it is a signal that the American administration remains very much a strong voice of the justice reforms. To me, it was pretty much like an announcement that the transition period, as well as impunity, has come to an end. No one is above the law”, said PM Rama.

Later during the interview, the Albanian Prime Minister also spoke about the decision of the EU foreign ministers to postpone the first Intergovernmental Conference with Albania and North Macedonia.
“The European Union has made an assessment and vowed that Albania and North Macedonia will join the EU. On the other hand, there is no decision because the European Union is based on unanimous decisions, and if a state disagrees, everything comes to a halt”, said Rama.
Speaking of the so-called “Mini-Schengen”, PM Rama thanked the former envoy on the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia during President Donald Trump’s administration Richard Grenell.
“First of all, I must repeat that you’re no longer in the role of a contributor to the Mini-Schengen initiative for which I would like to thank you for your role. On the other hand, it’s an unresolved dispute due to Serbia not recognizing Kosovo. But it is possible to have a life without hurdles between people and goods”, concluded the Albanian premier.
