Journalist Mentor Kikia said during an interview on Euronews Albania that according to him some of the serious incidents recorded in the past days were spurred from faulty relations with the state.
“I believe that the main and major reason is the relations we have with the state. We do not recognize the state as a referee, we do not see the state as the institution that must resolve the disputes that we have with another”, Kikia said.
In regards to an incident recorded last night in Southern Albania where 60 sunbeds were burned, Kikia said he wouldn’t be surprised if the owner would actually take the matter into his hands as so far, he has not pointed out any potential suspects to law enforcement authorities, although being aware who were the people that set the fire.
Kikia says that this phenomenon occurs amid a lack of trust in police action, where citizens try to solve their own problems and this consecutively leads to even further deterioration.
Given that the country still has a vague concept of public property, the journalist expressed his concern that similar conflicts will persist, blaming the “chaotic state of affairs” as the genesis of these dangerous situations.
Analyzing Prime Minister Edi Rama’s declaration on plans to restructure the State Police by the end of summer, Kikia said that the laws in force are already tough, but they lack implementation.
