As high school graduates prepare to finish their final exams and begin their university applications, a good knowledge of the current demand in the job market becomes a crucial component in the decision-making process. In the last two years, we have seen an increase in students applying to STEM fields. Engineering, Information technology, medicine, nursing, public health degrees, economics and education are the degrees getting more applications, whereas surprisingly, the interest in those applying to law school, seems to have dropped considerably, compared to previous years.
According to expert, Eranda Ymerali, the young generations are more aware and they are making better and more informed decisions, that go hand in hand with the real demand of the job market. They have ceased to apply to degrees, just for the sake of it.
Ymerali argued that at the moment, the hottest degrees in market are computer engineering, information technology and software programming.
“Amid the current post-pandemic circumstances, we have also seen a rise in the demand for professions in the fields of job security, medicine and nursing. There are many, who go to university just because they have to, and they end up emigrating.
At the moment, through the interviews we conduct, we offer career advising and the tools needed in order to actually get the job you are looking for. Young people should refer to the portals that deal specifically with such topics. They shouldn’t get demotivated by the lack of a positive phone call from the start,” said the expert.
According to Ymerali, another sector in high demand at the moment, is sales, which is looking for graduates that have a good grasp of a foreign language. She clarified that she is not referring to call centers but serious international companies that need marketing experts and professional sales staff.
