On Wednesday morning, the townspeople of Zall-Gjoçaj, a town from the county of Dibra, are protesting in front of the Administrative Court of Appeal in Tirana, as they claim that their complaints are falling to deaf ears.
They are calling on the court to assign a date as soon as possible in order to halt the construction work of a hydropower plant near their town.
The First Instance Administrative Court in Tirana dismissed a lawsuit filed by the locals of Zall-Gjoçaj, Melth, and Mat, and several Civil Society Organizations, which sought to suspend the construction of the Seka hydropower plant on river Zall-Gjoçaj.
This is not the first time that these locals, aided by environmental activists, stand up against constructions at the National Park of Zall-Gjoçaj.
They claim that the hydropower plant will be erected on the grounds of a corruptive affair that favors oligarchs but it will also bear high environmental costs in the ecosystem.
