The EU delegation in Albania has reacted in regards to the recent declarations of the Alliance for the Protection of the Theater, which asked for details and explanations regarding a visit of the EU ambassador to Albania, Luigi Soreca, the day of the court hearing for the case of the national theater.

The Alliance is looking for “answers regarding the topic of discussion during the meeting between the Chief Judge of the Constitutional Court, Vitore Tusha”, while also warning that they are in the process of starting procedures for the possible “non-grata” designation of the ambassador.

In the meantime, the European Delegation has considered the Alliance’s claims as slander, and through a post on their private Twitter account, they argued that the recent declarations of the Alliance for the Protection of the National Theater, aren’t based on any true facts or records and that during the meeting, there were no discussions regarding the open case being processed by the Constitutional Court.

“The EU Delegation to Albania strongly refutes today’s defamatory statements by a representative of the Alliance for the Protection of the National Theater toward the EU ambassador, Luigi Soreca,” declared the EU delegation’s statement, adding that “the EU Delegation to Albania confirms that Ambassador Soreca had met the Chair of the CC, Mrs. Vitore Tusha in the morning of June 16th 2021.

The meeting was part of a series of appointments that the Ambassador is having in the course of the last days with all chairs of the justice institutions to discuss the state of implementation of the justice reform in Albania.”
