The Albanian government will be taking a soft loan amounting to €100 million euros to subsidize the electro-energetic sector.

An agreement was reached with the German State Bank KFW, and later approved by parliament. According to the Minister of Economy and Finance, Anila Denaj, the aim is to reform the sector.

“This is a very important agreement that will allow us to continue the reforms on the electric-energy system, – a reform, which has been a leitmotif and objective of the Rama administration since its first mandate,” said Anila Denaj, Minister of Economy and Finance.

According to the minister, the reformation will include the separation of OSHEE from OST, the gradual opening of the retail sales market and the creation of a competitive energy marketplace.

This isn’t the first time that KESH takes a loan. Back in 2016, BERZH gave a €218-million-euro loan to this corporation, in order to finance its restructuring reforms.

With the loan approved this Thursday, KESH has received over €300 million euros in loans, for the purpose of restructuring.
