With 10 votes in favor, the High Prosecutorial Council suspended prosecutors Edmond Kariqi and Maksim Sota.

The decision came after the Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime sentenced Kariqi behind bars while leaving Sota on house arrest.

Both prosecutors are accused of corruption and abuse of office, however, they still have a right to appeal their case near the Administrative Court of Appeal.

Edmond Kariqi, former director at the Prosecution near the First Instance Court of Kukes, will be replaced by Xhevahir Lita, who will stay in office for three months.

Lita will also serve as a prosecutor at the Prosecution near the First Instance Court of Kukes until January 4, 2022.
