The Court of Prishtina sentenced Zoran Vukotic, to 10 years in prison. The former police officer, part of the Serbian Police Forces, was convicted on charges of war crimes against civilians, specifically sexual assault against an Albanian woman, in the commune of Vushtri.
The court ruling was commanded by Kosovo’s president, Vjosa Osmani, who called this an important step, being the first time a Serbian police officer gets a prison sentence on rape charges during the Kosovo War.
The Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, also called this conviction good news, while adding that justice for the victims of war will be restored and that there is maximal commitment to make this a reality, as soon as possible.
