Nine candidates will be racing to fill in the three remaining vacant positions at the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Albania. Consequently, it will be the High Court to choose the three candidates that are most fit based on several criteria.
The names of the candidates will initially be sent to the Justice Appointment Council tasked to skim through their professional profile as well as legal criteria.
Then, the High Court will choose who will be the 3 new and final members of the Constitutional Court following a secret ballot.
Currently, Vitore Tusha is the representative of Albania’s top court, although her mandate was terminated in 2017.
The Constitutional Court took up some burning cases after a long hiatus, including a dispute between PM Edi Rama and President Ilir Meta over the constitutional competencies on decreeing cabinet members, the demolition of the national theater, and a lawsuit over local elections that were boycotted by the opposition.
