The Delegation of the European Union to Albania has called on the government to postpone the appointment of the new chairperson of the Audiovisual Media Authority (AMA).
The Socialist majority is set to vote for the new AMA chief during the last plenary session, an initiative that has been widely contested by the extra-parliamentary opposition.
The EU delegation emphasized that AMA must function as an impartial institution and urged the Albanian government to consider appointing the new chairperson in September when the new parliament is formed.

The Audiovisual Media Authority is responsible for licensing and regulating broadcasting in Albania, as well as monitoring whether media outlets are complying with the laws.
