The US ambassador to Albania, Yuri Kim, called the new deal signed by the Albanian government and US corporation Betchel, on the construction of the Skavica hydro dam, an important step toward further economic progress.
The chief diplomat also said that Skavica marks a new milestone in making business amongst Albania and the US, and that this will increase energy supply for the growing local economy and make Albania an important exporter in the region.
With the attendance of the minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku and Bechtel Infrastructure’s Regional President for Europe, Africa and the Middle East, Justin Siberell, this new contract was signed this Tuesday, for the first stages of this project, between the Albanian Electro-Energetic Corporation and the American company.
Aside from its contribution to the local economy, the Skavica hydro power plant is expected to eliminate the years-long problem of floods in Shkoder and Lezhe, while making the cascade of Drin much more efficient.
The Skavica hydropower plant deal is significant for many reasons: it marks a new high in 🇺🇸 🇦🇱 business; will increase energy supply for 🇦🇱’s growing economy; & positions 🇦🇱 to be a net exporter of energy supply, diversification & security in the region. https://t.co/EQ06JhXZqd
