The former mayor of Lushnje, Fatos Tushe, including ten other local officials charged with abuse of office, forgery, and abusing with public tenders, appealed for a more lenient sentence at the Court of Appeal.

A few days ago, the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption upheld SPAK’s request to leave the former officials in prison over a corruptive 240 million Albanian Lek affair for the rehabilitation of a water irrigation channel.

Tushe is appealing for a more lenient sentence claiming that there is no evidence connecting him with the case. Similarly, a similar pretense was made by his subordinates, who are also charged with forging documentation.

On July 6, SPAK released an arrest warrant for Tushe and his 10 subordinates, of which seven remained behind bars, and the rest were sent to house arrest.

After Tushe’s arrest, Prime Minister Edi Rama not only discharged him from the post of mayor but also expelled him from the Socialist Party.
