The head of the EU Delegation in Albania, Luigi Soreca has stated that all institutions of justice should continue their work and partnership in order to achieve results, integrity and the ultimate autonomy of the judicial.

“To rebuilt trust in the judiciary and serving justice for the Albanian people, they should also show leadership and the necessary drive to apply the highest EU standards possible,” declared the EU ambassador.

Soreca held this stance while giving his word at the meeting of the 7th meeting of the Stakeholders Steering Committee at the EURALIUS V.

The EU ambassador said that EURALIUS – alongside PAMECA – has been one of the most important projects of the partnership in the field of rule of law in Albania. Luigi Soreca said that Euralius is entering the last months of its implementation after the term in December 2021.

Representatives of the EU in Albania emphasize that Eurolius has offered help in the efficacy of the judicial by considering its progress as the main priority.

“EURALIUS has stood by the side of SPAK in building their capacity to deliver on what is probably the most visible – certainly recently – achievement of the reform: showing that nobody is above the law, bringing corrupt officials and magistrates to justice and confiscating assets of organised crime groups. We are all aware here that more is needed, but we are seeing the fruits of the reform and of the EU support,” declared the EU ambasador.

Luigi Soreca said that the EU has offered over 50 million euros, in the form of straightforward support in budgets, grants and other forms of subsidies. He added that at the end of the mandate of Euralius V, the EU will make sure to not create any gaps. “the EU won’t stop its support in the justice system and institutions of justice,” he said.
