The National Public Health Institute of Kosovo has revealed that after the tests conducted on the drinking water in the Commune of Deçan, “several bacteria were identified that could indicate a contamination of the drinking water”.
Initially the levels of the chemical and micro-biological presence in the water samples came back within the norm. However, more recent analysis show that there could be a possible health hazard that might have led to the massive poisoning of the population seen in recent days.
Meanwhile, teams of the IKSHPK are continuing their work on the ground to discover the certain cause of the epidemic outbreak.
In addition, the Regional Water-Supply Company ‘Hidrodrini’ will no longer manage the Commune of Decan.
This decision was announced by the Mayor of the Commune, Bashkim Ramosaj, following the publication of the analysis results by the National Institute of Public Health (IKSHPK).
“Hidrodrini will no longer manage the Water-Supply of Decan. From now on, it will only manage the citizens’ taxes,” said Ramosaj.
Ramosaj also added that until now, a total of 1 392 citizens have received medical treatment. Since Saturday, the Commune of Decan has faced a large number of poisoning cases that are being directly led to the drinking water.
High government representatives have appealed to appropriate authorities to have this case solved as soon as possible and put the culprits before the law.
